The cringe-worthy 90s decor has to go. That’s the main reason I don’t go here much, to be completely honest. I also think Dope Jams goes way deeper with their stock. When I go into Halcyon I end up buying non house and techno stuff, but when I go into Dope Jams I end up buying stuff I would have otherwise ordered from overseas. I think the latter is more valuable.

I prefer Halcyon to Dope Jams by far. Even tho Taimur doesn’t reply to emails.

Dope Jams is cool, too, but there are some ethical questions about the way they bootleg tons of records. Perhaps something we’ll explore in a future edition of Recordkeepers.

Halcyon is great, but Dope Jams is an often overlooked gem of a record store in Brooklyn. Best house selection by far.

Kudos to LWE for featuring Taimur for the first one of this series! I check in at Halcyon every so often and Taimur always hands me a load of records through which to rifle…an I usually want them all! He definitely has a passion for the music and acts as a bastion for the general survival of record stores in general. Online downloads are great but there is nothing like walking into a brick and mortar store and having someone flood you with new material, customized to your tastes! Even better is when they turn you on to something you may not have otherwise picked up on. Respect
