blitznass.jpgA friend recently joked that promo mixes are the new album. While that might not be entirely true, it does underscore the recent propensity toward enticing consumers with alternate versions of what they hope people will buy. A really helpful mix gives listeners a survey of a group’s aesthetic, as well as their personal musical taste. This new mixtape from Berlin-based Jahcoozi does just that. On top of a hot remix 12″ with reworks by LWE faves Sasse and Ata, Arto Mwambé and Cassy, the trio is also set to release their sophomore album, Blitz N Ass.

Buy: Jahcoozi’s Blitz N Ass on Amazon.

As a preview, the group’s DJ/producer, Robot Koch, worked a handful of the group’s tracks into a raucous mix of Dizzee Rascal, Chromeo (remixed by LWE pals, Guns N’ Bombs), Yo Majesty, Klaxons and… 50 Cent? Trust me, it works. Fans of M.I.A. and Lady Sovereign — both of whom Sasha Perera, Jahcoozi’s vivacious vocalist, shares a likeness in toughness and delivery– should definitely take note.

What I love about electronic music is that it’s so much bigger than techno or house or ambient or electro or noise, et al. This blog used to be about a lot of different stuff, and sometimes I still like to take it there.

Wow great mix!
Thanks for hosting this.

No matter how much I’d like to, I just can’t bring myself to like Jahcoozi. Seen them in Berloin a few times and they were wastemans. All the Berlin crews that were mentioned (Blentwell you just don’t know) are poser twats. This band must be some kind of piss-take, right?

Decent production though.
