DOTW: Anders Ilar, Traveller

Those who try to pigeonhole Swedish producer Anders Ilar into any one genre are guaranteed to find him much too slippery. Since getting his start around the turn of the century, Ilar has investigated everything from open air ambient and chilly dub textures to more thumping techno and languid deep-house. The depth of his sonic abilities has made him attractive to a wide range of labels including Shitkatapult, Level Records, and recently the hotly tipped Further Records, for whom he delivered the new album Vidare. This week’s download, “Traveller,” is taken from his one off release for Bad Panda Records. In both timbre and spirit the tune looks back to the spacey synth pop of the 80’s, albeit as if he were studying its remains pulled up from the depth of pop’s oceans. Dreamy and liquid, “Traveller” is an easy tune to let roll across and soak into your mind. Thanks to Mr Ilars and Bad Panda for the tune.

Been aware of Ilar’s work for some time (since his rmx of Apparat’s “Wooden”, but this year he just exploded for me with tracking down all his back catalogue, podcasts, and his excellent fee album “Twilight Rainfalls” here – http://andersilar.naritarecords.com/index.html
I can’t praise him enough. His music is warm and sublime, whether it be his ambient work, through to his bangers. Just brilliant.
