DOTW: Cheap & Deep vs. Morgan Packard, Tighter

This week’s download comes relatively bereft of back-story, so it’s appropriate to stick to the facts. New York-based producer Morgan Packard recently announced via Twitter that he was collaborating with Jay Ahern, the producer behind well rated projects including Add Noise, Hauntologists, and Cheap & Deep. Although they haven’t worked out a name for this new project (“We’re fighting viciously about it,” he remarked to us), their initial offering suggests the sound is at least fleshed out. “Tighter” is no-nonsense, stripped back techno, rippling with reverberating hits and bobbing along a ceaseless synth pulse. When a man’s bassy voice bounces through the track it recalls Luke Slater’s Planetary Assault Systems project, just without all the body armor and armed only with a crowbar. Our thanks to Messrs Packard and Ahern for making the first fruits of their labor available for free; we’re awaiting the next transmission.
