DOTW: David Shaw and The Beat, The Jackal (Massimiliano Pagliara Remix)

Massimiliano Pagliara

Whether or not you’re familiar with the name David Shaw, there’s a decent chance you’ve already heard his music. He’s perhaps better known under the alias Siskid; his bass guitar work has appeared on Black Strobe records (including the album Burn Your Own Church); and he was half of the duo Animal Machine. Now in 2012 he’s stepping out under his own name (with the addition of The Beat), a project which straddles the line between synth pop and slower indie disco sounds. His first single, Infected arrived earlier this month on Her Majesty’s Ship, but we’re already looking ahead to #2, The Jackal. As a taster, check out Massimiliano Pagliara’s wicked remix of the title track. The Rush Hour/LARJ-affiliated producer’s take marries the rump-shaking bass and hi-hats of Chicago house with synths that wind and flow like the dark cloak of Italo disco. One imagines Black Devil Disco Club and maybe some KiNK records were on Pagliara’s turntable moments before pumping this one out. Thanks to all involved for making this one available.
