Download of the Week: Fairmont, Twin Freeks

Most times when artists put out new releases their audience holds the belief that its contents are both new to them and new material. Many would also be surprised to find out they’re wrong. That shouldn’t, however, stand in the way of us enjoying something. This week’s download is one from the vaults, if you will, of Fairmont, plucked in anticipation of the Canadian producer’s performance at Sweatshop, in the Hague. The ID3 tag admits “Twin Freeks” is from 2009, but it feels just as vital today. Its glowing ember pads become layered in valiant arpeggios and a low end that growls as if a sinister force was nearing; the whole thing could score a space opera. Hopefully it presages an even more compelling live performance.
