DOTW: Tracey Thorn, Kentish Town (Walls Remix)

Tracey Thorn is an enduring presence in electronic music, first as one half of Everything But The Girl and a bit later as a contributor to Massive Attack’s Protection. She’s since lent her considerable writing talents and distinctive pipes to dozens of tracks including ones by Tiefschwarz and Jens Lekman. Returning to making solo records in the mid-aughts she’s blossomed on her own, recording two albums including the recently released Love and Its Opposite for Strange Feeling. No stranger to being remixed, the cycle continues anew as tracks from the album have been reinterpreted by Andre Lodemann, Michel Cleis, Morgan Geist, and now Walls. The duo, who recently released their self-titled album on Kompakt and features members of Allez-Allez and Banjo Or Freakout, bring their shoegaze-influenced style of electronica to Thorn’s “Kentish Town,” our weekly download. Walls let Thorn’s voice whip across their carefully manicured drones like the wind through tree branches before letting backwards turned guitar licks carry the tune to an open-ended conclusion. Our thanks to Thorn, Walls and Strange Feeling for sharing this gorgeous remix with us.
