Since its minting last year, the UNO NYC label has released everything from drag-rapper Mykki Blanco to Fatima Al Qadiri’s conceptual pan-genre experiments to eccentric, low-slung disco-house by Farley “Jackmaster” Funk associate The Twilite Tone. In between these poles, it also holds a candle for more straightforward dance floor moves, which is where Fur’s EP Cocoon — due out on Tuesday, June 5 — comes in. Referencing deeper microhouse and the present UK bassy house scene, it’s a strong debut, and it’s only bolstered by remix turns from SFV Acid and Fred P, the latter of which we’re pleased to feature as this week’s exclusive download. Fred P does his trademark twilight rolling movements here, patiently unfolding slivers of the twitchy original amid flowing percussion and languid, droning organ. In spite of this, it’s busier than much of the remixer’s catalog, and he does an admirable job of keeping the quivering energy of Fur’s track intact.
