DJ Naughty, also known as Filippo Moscatello, pops up randomly from time to time. After a run of records on International Deejay Gigolo in the 90’s, Moscatello resurfaced in 2005 on Eskimo Recordings with a mixed CD and single. Last year he found his way onto a number of year end lists — RA’s and mine, for example — with his “World EP” on Moodmusic. They hope to reprise Naughty’s success with remixes of “World Of A Woman” from Polish upstart and occasional Boxer Recordings artist, Maximilian Skiba and The Green Men, yet another Sasse project.

For a tune which was quite accessible from the start, Max Skiba’s flashy remix is even more energetic and genre-spanning than one might have expected. Built with an arsenal of electro and Italo disco hardware, Skiba only alludes the original in structure and rather incidentally through a shared synth lick. His busy version slinks and sparkles, harnessing disco string runs, churning Rhodes modulations and large swaths of melody to cover a large swath of retro-influenced tastes. In Flagranti/Black Devil Disco Club fans should take note. Klas “Sasse” Lindblad and his Green Men partner Nick Chacona play it more safely, drying out the original’s drums and smoothing out its peaks, adding two minutes in the process. For DJs hoping for a more stable version of “World Of A Woman” their remix is worthwhile, but it’s Skiba’s adventurous revision which captures my heart and makes me want to dance. With a “World Of A Man” package still possibly in the works, it looks like Naughty will be staying above ground for a least a while longer.
