DOTW: Kode9 ft. Cha Cha, Time Patrol Dub

Piggybacking on Andrew Ryce’s excellent interview with Kode9, this week’s download is an unreleased dub version of his track “Time Patrol.” The original, which first appeared on Hyperdub’s five year anniversary compilation, heightened the sense of dread with a disquieting performance by Kode9’s frequent collaborator, Spaceape. Yet even without his impassioned lyrics the track has plenty of presence, not least thanks to its giddy, nostalgic breaks, dramatic chord stabs, and the way Cha Cha’s goblin-esque vocals ooze between them. Consider this an aperitif for Kode9 & Spaceape’s doozy of a forthcoming sophomore album, Black Sun. Thanks to Kode9 and Hyperdub for making the track available.
